Press Release: Officially Sealing It with a Kiss - Harlequin Files Patent Application for the Essential Romantic Kiss to Encourage More Kissing this Valentine's Day

Huh. I wonder why Torstar hasn't followed suit and trademarked the name Toronto Pravda for the Toronto Star.

That isn't a cheap political joke, by the way. I just think it'd be funny if Torstar showed some business acumen and sued people for using that name, if Harlequin's trying to put a patent on kissing.s

Press Release: Media Alert - Métro14 Montréal Shows its Colours in a Big Way with a New Brand Identity and a Robust Primetime Line-up!

http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/February2011/01/c7103.html

CJNT officially becomes Métro14 tomorrow. The "Robust Primetime Line-Up!" is the standard CHCH lineup, but tailored for Métro14. In addition, the music video blocks have actual names now, and not placeholders like International Short Films and Canadian Indie Music Videos.

As for Métro14's new logo, I didn't like it at first. Now that I realize those are silhouettes of buildings specific to Montreal, I think it's a good logo. It's distinctive and unique.

As for This Movie Sucks!, boy, Channel Zero has no faith in the show anymore, does it?

Press Release/CBC Missive: Everyone, Every Way: CBC/Radio-Canada's strategy for the future

http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/February2011/01/c6895.html
http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca/strategy2015/index.shtml

Basically, this boils down to an increased online presence, and regionalism. You remember regionalism, right? The thing CBC had been hacking away at by basing more of its shows in Vancouver and Toronto? The thing CBC was trying to drain from its local newscasts in favour of Frank Magid-isms? Yeah, that regionalism. Crazy!

As for things like "innovative, high-quality Canadian content," show me that you can do something better than InSecurity and The Ron James Show, and that you're truly interested in bringing in new talents to the radio and television networks. Until then, I don't buy the promises.

As an aside, CBC should bring back radio drama and something that approximates Brave New Waves. Radio drama doesn't rake in the bucks, but it builds a talent pool that may transfer to television down the line. Afternoon reruns of Ideas and Quirks & Quirks just doesn't cut it.
